About the Artist: Charlie John is a Navajo silversmith artist who was born in Winslow, AZ.  Charlie started an apprenticeship at the age of 14 with his father's uncle, William Singer, who Charlie credits as the man who taught him the craft of silversmithing. In 1972 William Singer opened a shop near Charlie’s school where the two would make and sell jewelry. Charlie recollects that back then, he and his uncle would make enough jewelry to fill a suitcase and some buyers would purchase the entire suitcase full of jewelry. (Garland's, 2018)
