About the Artist: Anderson Koinva was born in 1956 in Shungopavi on Hopi's Second Mesa, AZ, and belongs to the Sun Forehead Clan. He was a carver before his wife Berna's father, Bernard Dawahoya, taught him the art of silver overlay, a technique refined by artists Fred Kabotie and Paul Saufkie, Koinva's grandfather. Anderson and Berna Koinva are among the few Hopi silversmiths who hammer and dome their bracelets. They also make ornaments.
