Stone & Sterling Silver Inlay Necklace by Jeanette Dale & Jimmy Poyer
About the Artists: Jeannette Dale, a Dinè silversmith, learned the art from her mother, Juanita Begay, in 1973. Dale found that her former job cutting computer chips helped to make her work stand out. Her jewelry features unique stones set in stamped silver with high polishes. She always leaves a mark to show that the jewelry is handmade. Sale was born in Shiprock, NM, in 1949. Jimmy Poyer, also a Dinè silversmith, was born in 1954 near Mexican Hat, AZ. He graduated from high school in Shiprock, NM, tried college, then spent 23 years touring as lead guitar player and singer in his country western band. Poyer's bandmate, Jimmie Harrison, played rhythm guitar in his band and taught Poyer jewelry-making after they stopped touring. Poyer, known for his inlay bear designs, makes his jewelry from sheet silver, wire and natural stones.
