Turquoise Mountain and Sterling Silver Necklace by Victor Coochwytewa
Artist: Victor Coochwytewa (1922-2011) specialized in Hopi gold and silver overlay jewelry and started making jewelry in 1940 with Paul Saufkie. After a brief hiatus due to his service in WWII in the South Pacific theatre, he continued making jewelry with Paul Saufkie and Fred Kabotie, teaching jewelry crafting classes to veterans. Victor became one of the most well known second generation overlay artists and has won many awards from notable shows around the Southwest.
