Her mother, Rose Williams, taught pine pitch pottery-making to Alice, her sisters Susie Crank and Sue Ann Williams, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Williams. The Cling family digs the clay near Black Mesa. The pots are hand-coiled, covered with pine sap, and smoothed with a stone before outdoor firing. In 2006, Cling was selected as an Arizona Living Treasure for preserving Dinè culture through her pottery.
