Diné silversmith Vernon A. Begaye was born in 1965 and raised in White Cone, AZ. His parents, Jimmy and Ella-Mae Begaye, were silversmiths, and his mother was a traditional Navajo rug weaver. Begaye earned a degree in Drafting and studied at the Gemological Institute of America. Influenced by Scandanavian, Art Deco, Egyptian and Navajo rug and stamp designs, Begaye creates tufa cast jewelry with multi-colored stone inlay in abstract patterns.
