About the Artist: Fannie King has been making coiled baskets since the 1960s. Born Fannie Bitsinnie around 1946, she was raised in a Diné family in Monument Valley, AZ. She married a Paiute and moved to Navajo Mountain, where the San Juan Paiutes, including her sister-in-law Edith King, had a tradition of basketmaking. Fannie King taught the art to her four daughters.
