Fan Shape Earrings by Duane Maktima
About the Artist: Duane Maktima, born in 1954, was taught traditional ways by his Hopi fraternal grandfather (Eagle Clan) and Laguna maternal grandmother (Parrot Clan). He earned a BFA in metalsmithing from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Influenced by Art Deco and Danish artists, he combines geometric patterns with brightly colored stones set in unique textures of reticulated and brushed silver. He and his wife Janice run a studio-gallery in Glorieta, NM.
