About the Artist: Anderson Koinva was born in 1956 in Shungopavi on Hopi's Second Mesa, AZ. He is from the Sun Forehead Clan. He started as a plumber and Katsina carver. His wife Berna's father, Bernard Dawahoyo, taught him the art of silver overlay, a technique created by Fred Kabotie and Paul Saufkie, Koinva's grandfather. The Koinvas bold silver inlay designs are more rounded than flat. Anderson and Berna Koinva are among the few Hopi silversmiths who hammer and dome their bracelets.
