About the Artist: Jimmy Poyer, a Diné silversmith, was born in 1954 near Mexican Hat, AZ. He graduated from high school in Shiprock, NM, tried college, then spent 23 years touring as lead guitar player and singer in his country western band. Jimmie Harrison, a well-known Diné inlay jeweler, played rhythm guitar in his band and taught Poyer jewelry-making after they stopped touring. Poyer, known for his inlay bear designs, makes his jewelry from sheet silver, wire and natural stones.
