About the Artist: Mary Coriz Lovato revived traditional shell mosaic inlay work in the 1950s. She is known for her shell and stone mosaic inlay, cast, and stamp-work jewelry. Her signature hand design contains a swirl representing the universe. Lovato was born to the Corn Clan of the New Mexico’s Kewa Pueblo in 1936. Her mother and father were her teachers. Her sons, Anthony Lovato and Isaac Coriz, daughter Mary Francis Coriz, and grandsons are all jewelry makers.
