About the Artists: Martha (b. 1936) and Gene (b. 1933) Jackson are Dinè silversmiths from Chinle, AZ. They have been making sterling silver jewelry since the 1980s. gene learned his skills from his silversmith father and Martha learned from gene. her silversmithing helped pay for her Master's degree in education. The Jacksons are best known for hollowware and shadow-box styles. They use stamp-work or chiseled lines to accent the stones in their silver jewelry. Sometimes they set a stone on the inside of a bracelet. Their hallmark is a hogan symbol with their last name. Silversmith Tommy Jackson Sr. is their son.
