Artist: Marlow Katoney

About the Artist: Marlowe Katoney (b.1976) is from Winslow, AZ. His grandmothers, great grandmothers and great-great grandmothers wove Navajo rugs. As an artist, he focused on painting from middle school to college, and attended the Fine Arts program at the University of Arizona. Katoney's maternal grandmother taught him how to weave. By incorporating the contrasts of patterns, subjects and composition into his intricate work, he transforms traditional Navajo weaving into contemporary art.
