Michael Kanteena is from the Laguna Pueblo in NM. He makes pottery based on ancient archaeological forms from Chaco and Mesa Verde, Mimbres and ancient Mexican Indian clay forms, where human and animal effigies are common. Kanteena also makes pottery inspired by historic katsina dolls and masks. He fires his work twice, first in a kiln for strength then again outdoors in the traditional way.
