About the Artist: Beatien Yazz (Jimmy Toddy, 1928-2013) was of the most well known contemporary Native American painters. Beatien was apart of the Code Talkers, a branch of the Marines in WWII who confused the Japanese with secret tactical codes in their native languages. In his artwork, Beatien typically used casein on mat board. He would occasionally incorporate pen and ink with oils.
