About the Artist: Anderson Koinva was born in 1956 in Shungopavi on Hopi's Second Mesa, AZ, and belongs to the Sun Forehead Clan. He was a plumber and carver before his wife Berna's father, Bernard Dawahoya, taught him the art of silver overlay, a technique refined by Fred Kabotie and Paul Saufkie, Koinva's grandfather. Anderson and Berna Koinva are among the few Hopi silversmiths who hammer and dome their bracelets. They also make ornaments.
