About the Artist: Roland Hogan Begay was born on a ranch southwest of Gallup, NM, and learned silversmithing from his father. He has been making jewelry since 1974. Begay uses sterling silver and copper to create jewelry representing traditional Diné Wedding baskets. Each coil of the baskets is tamped by hand and the silver is oxidized to form the black basket pattern. Begay also uses silver overlay to create rings and bracelets with scenes from Diné life.
